infinity

Equations are more important to me, because politics is for the present, but an equation is something for eternity.

Albert Einstein

There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There’s .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I’m likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I’m grateful.

John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

The meaning of life is contained in every single expression of life. It is present in the infinity of forms and phenomena that exist in all of creation.

Michael Jackson

As long as you hate, there will be people to hate.

George Harrison

Looking up into the night sky is looking into infinity – distance is incomprehensible and therefore meaningless.

Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

If a God watches over it all, does He actually mete out justice for such a race of gnats? Does His eye see the sparrow fall when the sparrow is less than a speck of hydrogen floating disconnected in the depth of space? And if He does see… what must the nature of such a God be? Where does He live? How is it possible to live beyond infinity?

Stephen King, The Dark Tower
